Description
The tape measure-guided BeamF3 method that dominates clinical practice (McClintock 2018) relies on manual entry of 3 scalp measurements into an algorithm. To determine one of these measurements, the exact halfway point (i.e. vertex Cz) needs to be calculated and marked. The values returned by the algorithm—the arc length and radial distance—must be followed by the staff during marking to accurately reach the TMS target site.
The EPlacement device is revolutionary solution that uses illuminated strips where a microprocessor calculates distances automatically by a simple press and lights up the exact intersection points. Therefore, there is no calculation involved, no need to determine the exact halfway point, no input to an algorithm, and no need for any marking. Simply follow a step-by-step procedure to mark F3.
The study introducing this approach noted improved accuracy by 34% along primary reference lines (Nasion-Inion and Left-Right tragus) (Fabregat-Sanjuan 2023). Importantly, healthcare staff report high satisfaction and ease of use.
In summary, EPlacement does not require making calculations and enables unskilled staff to perform the task of F3 marking. The system can be used to also determine other locations of the 10/20 system (i.e. different from F3).
